Human Factors in Diving - Level 2

For those who partook of Guy Shockey's Workshop at Divescapes '22, here is next step course.

We are happy to announce that Gareth Lock and Guy Shockey will be running two level 2 Human Factors in Diving programs in Alberta in February 2023. The first course will be held in Edmonton (location: Boardroom #1, Percy Page Centre, 11759 Groat Road) on February 11th and 12th, and the second during the following weekend in Calgary on the 18th and 19th. (Location TBD)

The two-day, face-to-face course is for divers who learn best through experiential learning and want to create teams quickly. It is particularly valuable for those in leadership positions in just about any field. This includes diving instructors, dive masters and instructor trainers and course directors.

The two days together support a different learning style, and enable a deeper level of collaboration, skills development, and teamwork. This will inevitably build stronger relationships and team learning and will also provide a different team-based approach to problem solving relating to human factors and non-technical skills.

The benefits and outcomes of attending this in person course are significant. They include:

  • Better situation awareness

  • More effective communication

  • Improved briefing and debriefing skills

Understanding of how to create a team quickly so that learning can be improved in the context of training and more effective exploration achieved in the context of ‘fun’ diving.

This in-person course embraces all the pioneering elements that The Human Diver is renowned for and is a great addition to every diver’s training tool kit.

Course registration includes enrollment in the Essentials online program, which is considered pre-course study for the two-day, face-to-face program. Registration is a two-step process that includes registering with Thermocline Diving and The Human Diver. Registering with The Human Diver will give you access to the Essentials course as well as membership in the global The Human Diver community where you will find a continuing commitment to learning human factors skills.

You will also receive a series of emails from us before and after your course. If you have any questions about anything, please don't hesitate to contact me at guy@thermoclinediving.com.

Spaces are limited to 8 participants per course and registration is on a first come, first serve basis. The class fee is $475 USD per person plus a $25 USD registration fee with The Human Diver. There will be travelling costs for Gareth and Guy split among three classes and 24 participants, so I do not expect them to be significant. Gareth is flying from London to Calgary and Guy from Vancouver Island to Calgary. I would estimate this cost to be in the $150 range per participant.

We look forward to seeing you!

Guy
